In July, President Biden signed a sweeping executive order to promote fairer markets, noting that “what we’ve seen over the past few decades is less competition and more concentration that holds our economy back.” He hit the nail on the head. Monopolies are everywhere in America today. They use their power to block growing businesses and entrepreneurs from competing with new and better products. They leverage their dominance to limit choices, earnings, and opportunities for working people. And they extract wealth and political power from local communities so they can keep it that way.
But a major shift is now underway.
On Thursday, December 2nd, join the American Economic Liberties Project for a town hall event featuring White House National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, National Economic Council Deputy Director Bharat Ramamurti, and Special Assistant to the President for Technology and Competition Policy Tim Wu, to hear how the President’s Executive Order on Promoting Competition in the American Economy is supporting the millions of workers, entrepreneurs, and honest business owners that form the bedrock of America’s economic strength. We’ll also be joined by a diverse slate of business and labor leaders who will discuss the harms they experience from monopoly power and engage in a Q&A with White House officials.
