The Senate on Tuesday voted 68-29 to confirm Big Tech foe Jonathan Kanter to lead the antitrust division of the Justice Department.

Why it matters: Kanter, a favorite among progressives, joins Biden administration antitrust gurus Tim Wu and FTC chair Lina Khan who want to see more aggressive action against monopoly power.

Catch up quick: The antitrust attorney previously worked at the FTC and law firm Paul Weiss before starting his own antitrust firm last year. He has worked on behalf of clients with complaints about Big Tech.

What they’re saying: “It’s never been clearer that monopolies, particularly unaccountable platforms like Facebook and Google, are a menace to families, small businesses, and communities around the country,” Sarah Miller, executive director of anti-monopoly advocacy group the American Economic Liberties Project.
