Congress’ Latest Funding Package is a Gift to UnitedHealth Group and Ticketmaster
Washington, D.C. — Following the release of a new continuing resolution from Congressional leadership to fund the government, which leaves out various key pro-consumer and pro-small business provisions from the prior version, the American Economic Liberties Project released the following statement.
“If reports are true that the latest funding package strips critical pharmacy benefit manager (PBMs) and junk fees reforms, it would be a betrayal of the public in favor of monopolistic corporation,” said Morgan Harper, Director of Policy and Advocacy at the American Economic Liberties Project. “Congress had a clear opportunity to stand up for consumers and small businesses by tackling junk fees and reining in powerful PBMs — the latter of which President-Elect Donald Trump has called for — but instead, it handed a gift to corporate giants like UnitedHealth Group, Ticketmaster, and big hotel chains. We urge lawmakers to reject this corrupt package and prioritize quickly passing a spending package that delivers real relief for families and small businesses struggling under monopoly power.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
