Economic Liberties Applauds Minnesota House Passage of Junk Fee Ban
Washington, D.C. — In response to news that the Minnesota House of Representatives has passed HF 3438, a ban on junk fees, the American Economic Liberties Project released the following statement.
“Today’s news is something all families and honest businesses in Minnesota can celebrate,” said Pat Garofalo, Director of State and Local Policy at the American Economic Liberties Project. “Our polling shows an overwhelming 85 percent of Minnesota voters support state legislation that would eliminate deceptive junk fees, which cost consumers thousands of dollars per year. With this vote, the Minnesota House is sending a clear message that they are listening to those concerns over bad-faith interest group arguments. We commend Rep. Emma Greenman for her leadership on this issue and look forward to a Senate vote soon.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
