Economic Liberties’ Statement on the Advancement of Alvaro Bedoya’s Nomination to the FTC
Washington, D.C. — The American Economic Liberties Project issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s vote to bring Alvaro Bedoya’s nomination as Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to the Senate floor for a full vote.
“From fighting high gas prices to putting the brakes on illegal mergers, the FTC is mission-critical to solving today’s most pressing economic challenges,” said Sarah Miller, Executive Director of the American Economic Liberties Project. “We are thrilled to see Mr. Bedoya’s nomination advance, and we encourage the full Senate to swiftly confirm him to ensure the FTC is operating full steam ahead.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
