Economic Liberties Welcomes Founder Sarah Miller as a Member of the Organization’s Board of Directors
Washington, D.C. — The American Economic Liberties Project today announced that its founder and original Executive Director Sarah Miller, who most recently served as the Chief of Staff at the Federal Trade Commission, will return to the organization as a member of its Board of Directors.
“We’re thrilled to have Sarah rejoin us at Economic Liberties as we enter a critical stage in the fight to make our economy more competitive and fair for consumers, workers, and honest businesses across the country,” said Nidhi Hegde, Executive Director of the American Economic Liberties Project. “Sarah’s work and leadership at the Commission over the past few years has helped reinvigorate the agency’s antitrust and consumer protection muscles, ushering in a new era of modern, effective, and democratic enforcement. Having her strategic and visionary mind back on our roster will be an important asset as our team works harder than ever to navigate new policy opportunities and center a populist, pro-entrepreneur, and pro-worker platform in the country’s economic agenda.”
Since March 2023, Sarah Miller has worked as Senior Advisor to the Chair and Chief of Staff at the Federal Trade Commission under Chair Lina Khan. Recognized by The New York Times as being “central to making the issue [of antitrust] prominent,” Sarah Miller previously led Economic Liberties since founding the organization in February 2020. Under Miller’s leadership, Economic Liberties became the central hub for anti-monopoly expertise and advocacy, supporting policymakers and enforcers at the federal, state, and local level. Miller has been a regular advisor to policymakers at all levels of government, serving on President Joe Biden’s transition team and, prior to launching Economic Liberties, serving as a Senior Advisor at the Treasury Department during the Obama administration and in several roles at the Center for American Progress.
“Economic Liberties’ deep policy knowledge and organizing heft continues to supercharge Americans’ efforts to stand up to corporate power and exploitation all across the country,” said Sarah Miller. “I’m honored to rejoin an exceptional team of people who have long punched far above their weight in the fight between American democracy and monopoly power.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
