Jim Jordan Is a Big Tech Ally

January 27, 2023 Press Release

Washington, D.C. — In response to news that Republican leader Representative Jim Jordan is kicking Freedom Caucus co-founder Representative Ken Buck from his position as the lead Republican on the Antitrust Subcommittee, the American Economic Liberties Project released the following statement. Buck is the main Republican sponsor of several key antitrust bills to address the power of Big Tech firms.

“It’s no surprise that Republican leader Jim Jordan would be doing the bidding of Google, Amazon, and Facebook,” said Matt Stoller, Director of Research at the American Economic Liberties Project. “From opposing the refiling of Trump’s antitrust suit against Facebook to passing around committee memos encouraging no antitrust action against Big Tech firms, Jordan has been working on behalf of Big Tech for years. Republican voters should know that Jordan says one thing about Big Tech in public, and another in private.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
